Compound Verbs in the Present Tense
Compound verbs have prefixes such as -der, -çê, -ve, -ra, -hil, -da, -rû, etc.
- As you know one of the simple and basic verbs is kirin – which means to do.
The present stem of this verb is -k,
In the present tense, the affirmative form will be:
- Ez dikim – I do – I am doing
- Tu dikî – you do – you are doing
- Ew dike – S/he does – S/he is doing
- Em dikin – We do – We are doing
- Hûn dikin – You do – You are doing
- Ew dikin– They do – They are doing
And the negative form will be:
- Ez nakim – I don’t do – I am not doing
- Tu nakî – you don’t do – you are not doing
- Ew nake – S/he doesn’t do – S/he is not doing
- Em nakin – We don’t do – We are not doing
- Hûn nakin – You don’t do – You are not doing
- Ew nakin– They don’t do – They are not doing
- A compound verb which is with -çê prefix and the verb kirin is çêkirin which means to make, to prepare.
In the present tense it will be:
- Ez çêdikim – I make – I am making
- Tu çêdikî – you make – you are making
- Ew çêdike – S/he makes – S/he is making
- Em çêdikin – We make – We are making
- Hûn çêdikin – You make – You are making
- Ew çêdikin– They make – They are making
And the negative form will be:
- Ez çênakim – I don’t make – I am not making
- Tu çênakî – you don’t make – you are not making
- Ew çênake – S/he doesn’t make – S/he is not making
- Em çênakin – We don’t make – We are not making
- Hûn çênakin – You don’t make – You are not making
- Ew çênakin– They don’t make – They are not making
- Tu ji bo şîvê çi çêdikî? – What are you making for dinner?
- Ew çima ji bo şîvê goştî çênake? – Why doesn’t she make meat for dinner?
- Ez taştê çêdikim. – I am preparing breakfast.

- Tu vedikî – Tu venakî
- Ew vedike – Ew venake
- Em vedikin – Em venakin
- Hûn vedikin – Hûn venakin
- Ew vedikin – Ew venakin
- Hewa gelekî germ e. Ez pencereyan vedikim – It is too hot. I am opening the windows.
- Tu çima çenteyê xwe venakî? – Why don’t you open your bag?
- Ew dikana xwe vedike. – She is opening her store.
